Meet the Team!


Gerald Evans

Born in Huntsville, Alabama but raised in Newport News, Virginia for most of his life. He entered college with no Prior experience with programming but quickly found a passion for it in his classes. Gerald was originally not going to be a part of this team but after learning what this project entailed he quickly became a part of it. He had previous experience with Virtual Reality and is looking forward to learning how to develop a VR application.

 

Melanie Vu

Melanie Vu is a senior at the George Mason University at Virginia where she is majoring in Computer Engineering with concentration in Net-Working. She was born and raised in Vietnam, a small country in South-East Asia. At the age of 18, she moved to United States with limited understanding of English language. She attended NOVA in Virginia to learned the language and got her Associate Degree in Engineering. With no background in computer or programming, she has developed a passion for coding. According to Melanie, it is the easier to learn “coding as foreign language” compare to English. The reason for Melanie to join the Mason LIFE VR project because it is not only help to improve her coding skill but also to help Mason LIFE students to practice their social skills in virtual world through Virtual Reality.

 

Caitlin Fitzsimmons

Caitlin Fitzsimmons is a senior majoring in Electrical Engineering at George Mason University. She started programming in middle school, and her interest in coding encouraged her to study Electrical Engineering. She was eager to join the Mason LIFE VR team and use her interest in gaming to help create a game with a positive impact.

 

Mara Barkley

Mara Barkley is a senior Electrical Engineering major at George Mason University. She was born in Columbus, Ohio and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was recruited to play on the Division 1 volleyball team at George Mason University, which is what brought her all the way to Virginia. Her main goal when deciding to major in electrical engineering is to be able to create things to help people in this world. When she saw the opportunity to work with the Mason LIFE program to help develop technology for them, she knew immediately that there would be no other project that she would have such a passionate interest in working on.

 

 

Marcela Angulo

Marcela Angulo is a senior majoring in Electrical Engineering at George Mason University. She was born in Cochabamba, Bolivia and raised in Sterling, Virginia. She decided to go into Electrical Engineering because of her interest in computer hardware. She is very passionate about helping out different communities such as the Hispanic and disability communities.  As she looked through the topics she saw the opportunity to collaborate with the Mason LIFE, but was unsure what the project would entail, to her surprise the project required virtual reality. She sought this to be a good opportunity to learn new skills and help others.
